A fading point of light

Auto Date Wednesday, November 30th, 2005

here’s a poem I wrote in a gist. Some stanzas have been omitted to protect my privacy. Enjoy…

A fading point of light Yvonne Foong 28/11/05

You walked into my life,
When luck wasn’t by my side,
You answered to my cry,
To things I so deprived.

Having searched high and low,
You appeared as the pot of gold,
That God lovingly bestowed,
To end my struggling row.

You were that cotton pulp,
That nursed my wounded heart,
Whenever I cried aloud,
You’d comfort from the start.

You were that point of light,
My map and living guide,
To you I seek my way,
You’re whom I safely confide.

(omitted)

But the truth I soon learn,
Is what I did not see,
When I’ve grown independant,
God took you away from me.

I’ve always thought you were,
Caring out of love,
Why must there be another her,
That made me a wounded dove.

You mean a lot to me,
For all that you have done,
Why aren’t we meant to be,
Why aren’t you the one?

I’m a loner

I should be indulging into my t-shirt plannings, but here I am sulking on heartaches. Don’t be surprised. I may be a fighter, but fighters are at the mercy of emotions as well.

Have been surfing blogs this afternoon, when I came upon a few posts that hit me in the head. Many a times, I told people that nothing is impossible so long we put our hearts to it. But there was one thing I forgot. We cannot control another’s desire for us. All we can do is pray to God for that person to look our direction. That’s where I loose out. I may be blessed and gifted in many ways, but so what? I’ve no one to turn to when I’m sad, no one to hold me when I’m weak, no one to fight along, no one to embrace. This place seems empty at times. (see… yvonne is very much human)

At the same time, (unrelated) I’ve also been trying to get in contact with a friend. I don’t have any special feelings for him, but he’s one heck of a friend to have, and I would very much like to see him again. I’ve asked around and none of our mutual friends know where the heck he is. What the hell, do we really mean so little to him? The last time I saw him was at Cheryl’s birthday party last year. How thin he has grown since the first day I knew him. He would send me e-mail occasionally, but they’re nothing more than forwarded junks. Is he really so busy, that he can’t even find time to reply my mail? What an ass…

Should anyone of you out there know a person by the name Fong Yewin, 22 years old, alumni of SMSJ and IMU, Medical Student in New Zealand, part-time magician, please tell him that someone misses him back home.

*sigh* This world is so big.

Pardon the over exposure and blurry effect. This was what happened when we forego the SLR. There are more… but if I upload them all, you’d probably think we look like cartoons. Check out the rest in my photo gallery.

Happy birthday Kenny Sia!

Auto Date Sunday, November 27th, 2005

What a long day. Hurried back from Church to join Kenny in KLCC. Karen was supposed to come but she fell sick, so I decided to pose as model myself. What?? It’s after all, my project maaaah!

I got Cheryl to be our photographer because, hey this was for fundraising, a non-profit venture. We needed to cut cost. Moreover, Cheryl’s a professional in the making. But on the way there, Kid Chan sent me his overdued sms reply. So I thought, “why not ask him to shoot, and then include his company name on the bunting? I would be returning a favor and he’ll get publicity”. See, Yvonne is quite smart also.

But then, Kid’s camera was not with him. Nevermind, digicam will do. This is for online banners, it’s gonna be small. (I forgot about the bunting).

Kid turned up first at the meeting. I suspect he could fly, because he couldn’t have taken bus 11 and arrived ahead of us. He was the latest addition to this plan. So, he must have been superman.

I took longer to arrive. Blame KLCC toilets for being overcrowded. I hated the delay. Almost wanted to jump queue at the toilet. Then, this tickled a bone…

Kid Chan: Where are you?
Kid Chan: (2 minutes later) Where art thou?
Yvonne: Sorry, if you’re there already, please wait for awhile. There’s a queue in the toilet.
Kid Chan: ok. U need help?
Yvonne: ???

Met him at the MPO lobby 5 minutes later (or so). Hem treated us Starbucks coffee(thanks!). Kenny turned up after another 10 minutes.

The birthday boy appeared to be much more approachable than expected. Entertaining and funny. Sorry dude, i didn’t know today was your birthday!!!

After finishing our drinks, we proceeded with the shooting. First was Kenny, then was me. Last was us in a photo.

But it didn’t turn out well, because I actually need the shots to be developed into banners. The KLCC park was not ideal as backdrop. We need better lighting.

So that means more work on another day.

Kid wore a long face. Yes, my bad. :-(

T-shirt promotional buntings

Auto Date Saturday, November 26th, 2005

Times like these, I wish the minutes would tick faster. I’m meeting Kenny Sia and Karen Siah tomorrow for a photoshoot session! They’ve agreed to be my t-shirt models. How sweet of them! XiaXue agreed to model the shirt as well. I think she might have been too busy because she have not replied to my subsequent e-mail. Oh well…

Anyway, the first batch of shirts will be arriving at my doorstep on Monday! I just can’t wait! I won’t be delivering orders by mail, though. They can be picked up at a few strategic locations. More info on that later.

Oh by the way, I need promotional buntings to go with the shirts. Places like shopping malls need banners to draw attention. Otherwise, it’s like finding a needle in the deep blue sea. AYA is also offering me a booth at the AYA Festival in Bukit Jalil on 2nd January! We definitely need buntings for such events. Stadium Putra is a very big place.

I’ve been surfing around for prices. The cheapest stand costs RM88+ while the more expensive and durable one costs RM100++
The bunting banner would cost around RM40+++. More accurate quotes coming in on Monday.

I would need sponsorship (individual or corporate) for the promotional buntings. Do you have any leads?

China says, don’t bully me!

Auto Date Friday, November 25th, 2005

I see an opportunity to reform improve the Malaysian police force. Why does it take a gigantic country like CHINA to intervene before our leaders can learn to buckle up and take problems seriously?

Now our Home Affairs Minister Datuk Seri Azmi Khalid wants to give China a visit to clear the air. But what good does that do when no action has yet been taken to solve the matter?

I hope Pak Lah understands that this is not just one case we’re talking about. It’s about time we do justice for the hundreds and thousands of people who have fallen victim to the hands of Malaysian police officers.

This reminds me of Mr. Corrupt Malaysia who kicked up a ruckus one month ago, for his painful ordeal in Pudu Jail for alleged drug consumption.

There are possibly a large amount of unreported cases as well. I wonder what would China do for the missing 50,000 chinese nationals, many others killed, and now mistreatment of their people in our country. I’m not trying to stir any controversies, but it’s about time the government do something to improve the attitudes of those people supposed to protect our safety.

This used to be an internal issue when only Malaysians have tasted our bad apples. But now, we’ve offended CHINA! Do you know how big and strong that country is? Can you imagine, how little time they need to remove us from the atlas? Hurry! Do something!

Freelance here freelance there

Auto Date Thursday, November 24th, 2005

It’s time that I make use of an organiser. They say birds of a feather flock together. How true! Freelancers after freelancers have been crossing my path in the last few months. Some came with job offers, some kept me in list, while some merely came to shake hands.

Editors, writers, designers, photographers, and even bloggers! Suddenly, It seems as though office jobs are no longer in favor. What’s happening here? Is the outsourcing business taking over the world? The weirdest thing is, most of these freelancers are very young adults! Is the generation supposedly spoonfed, is actually more daring and adventurous than we thought?

When I say young, I mean VERY YOUNG. Most of them start off during early 20s. Soon, by all means, I’ll know a freelance publisher! haha! Is there ever such a thing? I think John’s gonna have my neck for stereotyping. Never know, he might end up an editor instead. oops!

Yeoh Ken Nee the winner

Auto Date Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

I read with excitement about my cousin, Yeoh Ken Nee, in today’s The Star newspaper.

As a national diver, the two-time olympian had taken two years off his training to pursue a psychology degree at Help University College. Ken Nee has since regretted because the decision to study forced him to abandon his love for diving.

However, Ken Nee’s passion for the sport proved to be true, when the champion’s legacy continues to shine since his return to the sport last year.

Ken Nee made a successful comeback by winning the 3m springboard gold medal in the Islamic Solidarity Games in Jeddah in April this year. He also made a breakthrough in the September Asian championship when he breached the 700-point barrier for the first time, begging a silver medal along with the milestone.

With such excellent performance, Amateur Swimming Union of Malaysia (Asum) feels that Ken Nee is almost a sure bet to win gold in the Manila Sea games starting this Sunday.

I have definite faith that my cousin will win. Ken Nee is certainly an inspiration to me, for all that he has done over the years to achieve his dream. Let us all root for him!

DAP to the rescue

Auto Date Wednesday, November 23rd, 2005

Check out the blog of YB Teressa Kok, DAP publicity secretary and member of parliament.

Apparently, several chinese nationals who were previously detained, harassed, and abused by police officers have approached the opposition party to seek justice.

In this letter, YB Teressa Kok wrote to warrant attention from our Prime Minister on the matter of mistreatment on chinese nationals.

I wonder why didn’t these people think of MCA. heh heh…
Does it take such cases before people take the oppositions into consideration? Perhaps, during the next general elections, my dear readers would know which party to vote for.

The DAP is committed to the struggle for a free, democratic socialist Malaysian Malaysia, based on the principles of human rights, equality, social and economic justice, and founded on the institution of parliamentary democracy.

As democratic socialists or social democrats, we desire a social order whereby there can be free development of the human personality within the community; just distribution of the fruits of our labour; equality and social justice as the norms; and value and dignity placed on human work.

Equality is the precondition of free development of personality. It does not mean uniformity and levelling out, but opposition against exploitation and against the privileges of those controlling economic and political power.

Democratic socialism upholds the right to work and concern for the well-being of people of all classes, the right to a humane and clean environment, the right to comprehensive education and training of one’s choice, as well as the right to participate in administration and all decision-making processes.

As a member of Socialist International (SI), we are one with democratic socialists or social democrats throughout the world fighting for the cause of humanity and social democracy. We are in solidarity with oppressed peoples who oppose unjust wars and production of weapons for war and who advocate peace and prosperity based on equal co-operation aided by scientific knowledge and technical advancement.

Solidarity is the strongest weapon in the struggle against oppression and injustice and it embraces all the peoples of the world. All who subscribe to these fundamental values are our allies and our friends against tyranny, dictatorship, corruption, exploitation and oppression.

The national struggles for democratic socialism in the years to come will reveal differences in policy and divergences on legislative provisions. These will reflect the different histories and pluralism of varied societies. Socialists do not claim to possess the blueprint for a fixed and ultimate society, which cannot be changed, reformed or further developed. In a movement committed to democratic self-determination, there will always be room for creativity since each and every people and generation must set their own goals.

Individual freedom and basic rights in society are the preconditions of human dignity for all. These rights cannot replace one another, nor can they be played off against each other. Socialists protect the inalienable right to life and to physical safety, freedom of belief and free expression of opinion, and freedom of association and protection from torture and degradation. Socialists are committed to achieving freedom from hunger and wants, genuine social security and the right to work.

Democratic socialism also means cultural democracy. There must be equal rights and opportunities for the different cultures within each society as well as equal access for everyone to the national and global cultural heritage. Visit the official website of DAP.

Nolah, I am not some political fanatic or member of any parties. I’m just a scardy cat 19 year old who’s afraid of falling victim to the very people supposed to protect my safety. Just imagine, if one day, you are the one to be abused under police detention, it would be too late then.
