Article: Pelf, the second blogathoner..
Pelf says…
Hello everybody =) I am not sure whether I need to introduce myself, though I think it is not a bad way to start my first post in this year’s Blogathon. So yea, I shall proceed from there..
For those who do not already know me, I am “the” Pelf from “pelf-ism is contagious“. I am NOT a turtle scientist, and I really do NOT see myself being one in the future. But right now, I am working on my Master’s of Science in Conservation Biology in one of the Malaysian public universities in Kuala Terengganu.
Now, the term “conservation biology” may sound a little too “classy” but really, it is nothing to shout about. Basically, Conservation Biology students work on and learn from projects that they carry out, about the biology and ecology of a certain species - usually a species that will become extinct (otherwise why would we want to conserve them, right?).
In my case, I am working on the head-starting aspects of the riverine turtle, called the river terrapin (Batagur baska). My project revolves around carrying out multiple experiments to determine the best rearing practices to produce healthy and fit animals. These turtles will then be released back into the river at staggered ages, hence the size and health of each turtle is essential not only to its own survival but also to the health of the entire population in the river (am I going to fast?).
Do YOU have any questions concerning what I do for my Master’s degree? If you do, drop them in the comments box OR the chatbox on the right. I will be more than happy to get back to you =)
