Broadband ISPs in Malaysia
May 29th, 2007 by Yvonne
It has been over a month now since my Streamyx connection began acting up. It gets disconnected every minute, delaying the progress of my work online. As a result, less things gets done in a day and I become stressed from being shortchanged.
I don’t want to be shortchanged. I want the RM88 a month I pay to TMnet to be worth it. As Karl Marx pointed out, we are now suffering from the emancipation of a capitalist society. As long as there is a demand from the working class, the Burgeois will continue to prosper, and in this case, continue shortchanging us.
A state of injustice fuled by the law of demand and supply. I need to break away from this.
Redesign Malaysia has a list of Malaysian broadband ISPs. Some of which I have yet to hear about.
Readers, please share your opinion on other internet service providers besides TMNet.Thank you in advance. Help me break free!

i wish we have a good alternative so we can all boycot tmnet. but sadly i think the ones in the market aren’t any better - if not worse than streamyx. maxis broadband was a bad experience (read: slow) for my coworker who signed up for it and he had no choice but to go back to streamyx. i don’t know about jaring broadband though.

hmmmm a fellow marxist
you can try timebroadband if its available at your place they are not bad at all, and service wise their tech support guys are excellent … nothing compared to the brainless “support team experts” that streamyx passes your support calls to.. initially streamyx was my main lease line, now ive switched it and have streamyx as the auxiliary internet backup line and timebroadband as the main internet line
i hope im not speaking to soon about time’s services and hope they can keep up to their service level of efficiency

Sad to say but if you are living in a house, there isn’t much choice for you, either TMNet or Jaring would be the best. If you are staying in a condo (depending on which condo), I think the ISP that are available are really good and I’ve seen people with good speeds too.

Let me tell you guys the reason.
Malaysia can still offer 384K bandwidth? Popular plan at 512K & 1Mbps?
Advanced and developed countries are offering over 25Mbps.
including Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong, China.
That’s after the government push for competition and unbundling.
(some even before unbundling are also running at >4Mbps)
Still Malaysia want to claim to be IT hub? gosh! No wonder Malaysia Telcos are making money…and economic booming (just a little)
All at the expense of people welfare.
Guess you people should start to demand.

Instead of wasting money on the tallest flag pole, longest roti, ‘rotating plateform in space’…for god sake do something with more substance like having the best ISP in the region.
There is nothing proud with the Multimedia rubbish if the most basic thing like internet access is so far behind the surrounding countries.
I subcribe the 764K - 3.6M so call ‘Power’ Package with Maxis, I have been checking my speed last few days, guess what, I hardly even get pass 100kbps! Somethime even drop to 2kbps! What is the point of having a car to speed at 300km/hr but the highway is jam with cars travelling at 2km/hr? Maxis or Streamyx are just as bad. Wasting money.
Our government please stop cheating the public with those shallow achievements and really put something to work here.

13 years ago malaysia was coming up very well on IT but today i think we are trailing to back door in IT. I think all service provider and whow ever incharge of country IT aspect management must wake now to have the broadband spec acording to normal world class. if they dont wake now and still sleeping then there is good chance, they will bring our nice country IT to grave yard.
dont get me wrong here i love malaysia alot.
thank
