Valentine’s Day Auction: The Story
January 29th, 2008 by Yvonne
This auction has to be postponed. My blog is very unstable at the moment. Sorry for the inconvenience. Happy CNY!
All photographs taken by Cheryl Leong.
It’s that time of the year again!
This year’s Valentine’s Day, I would like to share the story between Yuin Yin and I. It doesn’t go way back and it does not involve tragedy. We went to the same school, we had mutual friends, but we never knew each other. I used to see her around, her Korean-doll appearance was unmistakable. With a smile so shy and motion that helped her slip pass uneventfully, little was known about her. I suppose she would have said the same of me.
Being a year older, Yuin Yin left school earlier. I forgot her until 2005 when news of me writing a book caught her attention. In summer the following year, Yuin Yin came back on vacation from studying medicine in Russia, and together with her sister Yuin Theng, she helped sell t-shirts and accessories to raise funds for my healthcare.
We lived apart most of the time, with her studying in Russia. Our primary communication took place on the internet that provided a safe environment to lend each other a crying shoulder. I remember Yuin Yin often complained about her depressing encounters in Russia.

In 2007, Yuin Yin herself was diagnosed with a Parotid Gland Tumor that turned out cancerous. She started blogging, underwent medical treatments, and the rest was history.
Most people today would know Yuin Yin as the cheerful blogger who proved herself strong from battling cancer. But to me, Yuin Yin will always be timid, gullible, and naive. Partly because she was that way. But mostly because somewhere in me doesn’t want things to change. With her naivety, came innocence and sincerity.
After Cheryl met Yuin Yin for the very first time, myself having not seen her for months, I said, “Yuin Yin doesn’t look like a person who would write the way she blogs, right?”, referring to certain posts that I did not agree with. When I saw her that morning, I did not know how to respond and ended up hardening myself, as if meeting a stranger. Is this Yuin Yin? Or is this the blogger? I didn’t know. Or maybe I had never known.
Then slowly, I began seeing Yuin Yin again. As we changed into matching outfits and posed comfortably for the camera, I felt as if a sister stood next to me. We looked wonderful together.
In the end, I don’t have to care about Yuin Yin the blogger. All I know is her, and that’s all I need to love.
Yuin Yin bought me some clothes from Russia. They are brand new, some with price tags still attached. We are now putting them up for auction to raise funds for my medical treatments. As usual, 100% of all funds raised from the sales will be kept in my medical fund for future use.
In conjunction with Valentine’s Day, the auction will be held between 30th January - 7th February on YvonneFoong.com. Two pieces of clothing will be up for bidding every three days.
Each winning bidder is advised to pay as soon as he/she wins the bid so that the item may be shipped in time as a Valentine’s Day gift to their choice of receipient. Payment may be made by online bank transfer. Buyers will bear the postage fee.
Below are the clothings and dates of when they will be up for auction. Please stay tuned!
30th Jan - 1st Feb Sweetie Pie

2nd Feb - 4th Feb Brown Lolita

5th Feb - 7th Feb Night Queen

All three, if possible
It’s only a suggestion, since the photos are of great quality. You could keep that in mind for ideas on auction items…

The banners in this post. If they can be converted to posters, they might make great auction items. But Yuin Yin’s permission is needed first…
