Yvonne Foong: Fighting NF

I went to first floor after class this afternoon to meet up with Tan June Yin this afternoon to sell her a tee. She picked brown color in ladies’ S size. I thought she would need an M or L since she’s tall, and brought six tees in total, in addition to samples, for her to choose.

She asked whether I would like Fayette House to help me sell. I said that would be great, because I was shy and afraid to ask support from collegemates. I hadn’t been too outgoing or friendly.

But my fears were unfounded. As quickly as I had passed them the bundle, they were snapped up by fellow students whose faces I could hardly remember. (I am bad at recognizing people), One of them happened to be a 18-year-old girl fresh out of secondary school. We took Biology together last semester, but I left for surgery after just three classes. Yet she remembered talking to me on her first day. We also chat online sometimes, but I still hardly know her.

Jeremiah the guy with a one=of-the-kind Mr. Bean humor bought a white one for his sister. He, like most people, did not even ask why I needed funds. But I gave him a flyer anyway, in case someone would ask eventually.

Earlier this week, I sent the college human resource personnel an email asking for permission to raise funds on campus. But I haven’t got a reply. So my friends’ spontaneous participation was just what I needed. I did not have to ask.

Later, I learned that another collegemate named Stephanie Fenella had known about the Heart4Hope Ambigram and suggested fayette House to help.
