I am going to study a subject through Upper Iowa University’s Independent Study program, that requires two textbooks I couldn’t get in Malaysia. So while I’m here in L.A. for surgery, I bought used copies of them through Amazon.

But my stay here is time-limited so I needed the books to arrive as soon as possible. While placing my order, I could opt to receive the book that cost RM10 by expedited mail at USD6+ as postage fee. Regular mail would have been at USD3+.

As for the other book that cost uSD70, the seller provided just one option, which was regular mail. While placing an order, I messaged her to say that I’m here in the U.S. for surgery and will return to Malaysia soon. I gave her my website address and asked her to send me the book as soon as possible. She agreed, and said she would send it the next working day.

On top of the USD70 book price, I paid USD3+ for regular mail, so naturally, I expected her to send it by regular mail that would have taken about 5 – 10 days to arrive. By sending it out the next working day, I thought she was already going out of her way to make sure the book arrived as soon as possible.

Imagine how touched and surprised I was to find the book arriving in 2 days’ time, and by Priority Mail!

Priority Mail cost USD10.35.
