Article: The joys of starting a business
It was mom’s sixtieth birthday yesterday so we celebrated it for her by having dinner at Asia Cafe. There was a new hawker stall selling Yong Tau Fu cooked in hot bean sauce. It took awhile to serve so after waiting about 20 minutes, I went to check how was my order coming along. The young lady who responded delightedly replied with a smile. When she finally served my dish, our eyes met, and she smiled as if to say, “enjoy your meal”. I felt odd, we normally see such contented people in expensive restaurants and hotels.
Around here, hawker stall workers look tired and jaded but not this lady. Perhaps it has to do with her stall being newly opened and the excitement that accompanies it.
Hopefully, it stays.
