Article: My plant

Plant in a pot adopted at the Nutrilite's 75th years anniversary celebration

Look, I adopted a plant with RM5.00 at the Nutrilite’s 75th year anniversary celebration in Petaling Jaya today. The Adopt-A-Plant campaign was originally scheduled to begin at 10:30am. But it ended early and by the time mom and I got there. At least we could still claim my plant. The volunteers informed us that it started at 10:00am instead.

I was a bit disappointed. The campaign’s goal was to enter the Guinness book of records for the most plants adopted.

That aside, I have a plant!

In his better days, dad loved gardening. He still loves to tell people about his garden in its present state whenever there are visitors around. But as his daughter, I know next to nothing. The rest of the family did not appreciate dad’s hobby so I grew up learning not to appreciate it too.

But I have started to wish that our city had remained as green as it was in my childhood. It seems to me that our garden is now the only green lung left. Last Friday, mom and I drove to Kota Kemuning to pick up some sponsored cupcakes. As we entered the city through a canopy of trees lining both sides of the road, I was plagued with nostalgia. Subang Jaya where I grew up used to be shady and cooling like that too. Those were the days. In just 20 years, Subang Jaya has turned into a microwave oven.

I feel guilty over the issue of global warming sometimes. But the way things are, we have little choice but to drive and patronize commercial outlets that are no more environmentally friendly than I am. All these factors contribute to the greenhouse effect.

Until we have state-level policies to protect the environment, I guess the best thing small flies like me could do is to start loving nature.

What shall I name my plant?

P/S: Can I leave the roots sticking out like that? Will they creep into the soil themselves, or must I bury them all in?

Hello Yvonne, that’s a beautiful plant. Name the plant? Ha ha. First time I hear that. Maybe call it ‘hati’ as the leaf colours look like hearts.

I have one rubber plant at home, only one…and everyday I talk to it. About the weather mostly, no politics, as plants don’t like politics, ha ha.

But as its Autumn now, even though it sits on my window sill to get whatever sunlight there is this coming Winter days, it has stopped growing. I guess maybe hibernating for the Winter.

I have looked thru you other beautiful pictures in previous postings. They’re very interesting and beautiful well taken pics.
You’re a good photographer, not to mention a very pretty one too, *wink*.

You have a pleasant week and keep a song in your heart, Lee.

Hello Uncle Lee. You won’t believe this. On my way back after adopting the plant this mprning, I thought about you in the car. But I don’t remember what reminded me. I remembered your post about the lady friend whose image you helped to change. But even then, I could not remember who this person was, except that he comments on my blog sometimes.

And now here you are, leaving me another message. What coincidence!

    Hello Uncle Lee and Yvonne,

Ah, what a miracle. God bring great minds together. :)

The plant remind me of Genesis 1:11 !

Maybe name it Genesis? Hati is a wonderful name too. I love it. What a genesis from the heart.

    Cheers Evangeline
