New Year Resolution

My friend Rajan went to be with the Lord on new years day so I was not in the mood to think about making resolutions. I shall carry out that task today since it’s the eve of Chinese New Year.

On top of my health and medical care, I resolute to focus on building my Amway business network this year. By reaching out to people of like minds with a similar need to take care of ourselves, I hope to inspire others into taking charge of their lives.

In the past week, I had been feeling distressed and unsettled when some young people made thoughtless comments about Amway and Nutrilite in my face. One of the boys suggested me to look at a new brand of health supplements about to enter the Malaysian market. He claimed that this company is all-organic while Nutrilite is not. Of course, I know better than that but I can’t help feeling affected. I also suffered from feelings of guilt over raising funds for my own healthcare while so many people do not get the treatments they need which added to my distress.

Then I chatted with an uncle this morning. He asked how I had been so I told him. He said if I worry about what people say in front of me, I haven’t heard what they say behind me yet. So I needn’t be bothered by what people say as long as I know the TRUTH.

It is young people my age the ones who discredit Amway and question my decisions. Older adults do not. In fact, they support it. I guess it’s because those of the older generations can identify with my financial struggles better. I do not have working parents to rely or fall back on. It’s been that way since before I could remember. Besides, living with NF means that my career prospects are limited. So I really need to do something which I truly believe in that will also help to look after myself.

When I met Tiam Loong who explained the business plan, I saw the potential of reaching out to people and help myself at the same time.

In recent weeks, some well-meaning people introduced me to a health product being sold through another multi-level marketing company. The theory that this product based itself on sounded exciting and convincing at first. The financial return seem better too. But after much thought, I made an important decision to remain focused on working with Amway.

As Richard Devos said, it is not creativity or intelligence that leads to success. It is persistence.

The other company sounded very creative and unique. It’s unheard of, so the majority of people would be easily impressed. But when I recalled the day I met Tiam Loong and the emotions that were conjured when he showed me the video of Mr. Khoo travelling to meet distributors in different countries, I remembered the purpose of my decision to build this business.

The fact about Amway being an established corporation that stood the test of time is one. But above that is my desire to make a difference in other people’s lives.

Remembering the bigger purpose, I will not be easily tempted to derail and jump ship.

And I am certain that I can do it with persistence. Look how far my supporters and I have come with Heart4Hope over the last five years! If we can persist and succeed in the past, we can do it now.
