Syahidah raised RM705.00 at Readings, Seksan Gallery

I was introducing Syahidah and her cause, and urging the attendees to support her.

Syahidah Ishak raised RM705.00 during yesterday’s Readings at Seksan Gallery. Syahidah blogged about yesterday too, over here.

Thank you Choi In and Marcus who accompanied me to Seksan Gallery. I was comforted seeing how receptive supporters of Readings were. Syahidah brought some products to sell. One very sporting guy bought an Angry Birds shoulder bag and started using it immediately. Most of them donated cash. The donation box that I brought was filled with cash. The performer-of-the-day, a singer and musician gave her the money that he received from selling his CDs.

Syahidah was so moved that she cried relating her past experiences before the event started and cired again after the event ended.

I am sure, if not for the brain tumor that she has, Syahidah would rather not be asking for help like this. She was so shy with her eyes lowered when I collected and handed her a clump of cash retrieved from the donation box.

Syahidah, we love you.

As a child, Yvonne Foong dreamed of growing up to help others. To achieve her ambition, she began studying to become a psychologist. But things changed when tumours were discovered in her body at the age of sixteen. She was diagnosed with neurofibromatosis type 2 -- a genetic illness with no cure. Fighting for survival, Yvonne turned to fundraising and embarked on a medical odyssey to the United States. Her experiences since then have transformed her into a motivational speaker; inspiring hope, faith and strength.
