Diagnosis: Neurofibromatosis Type 2 – a genetic disorder that makes tumors grow in my brain, spine, and along peripheral nerves.
Location of tumors concerned: Neck & Brachial Plexus
Risks & Symptoms: The Brachial Plexus is a group of nerves that provide movement and feeling to the arm. This group of nerves connects the spine to the muscles to the arm and hand. When there is a problem with these nerves, the signals going to the appropriate muscles may be blocked or weakened, preventing the muscles from moving normally. In some cases, a problem with the Brachial Plexus also involves partial paralysis of the diaphragm and/or partial paralysis of the eye’s pupil on the affected side. Paralysis of the eye’s pupil is referred to as Horner’s Syndrome. Partial paralysis of the diaphragm is called hemi-diaphragmatic palsy. (from http://brachialplexus-erbspalsy.com/)

Why I need to raise funds
NF tumors and the problems they cause require expert medical care. Unfortunately, I am uninsured and not insurable while the Malaysia lacks the facilities and experience required for the long term care of patients with this genetic disorder.
Besides, it is important to maintain my quality of life. My father is unfit to work after a brain haemorrhage more than ten years ago while my mother’s work prospects are limited. So I need to organize fundraising campaigns to pay for good healthcare locally and abroad. Poor treatments can leave me unable to take care of myself and instead become a burden to others. I must obtain the best treatment possible.
Is this Trust Fund tax deductible?
No, Yvonne Foong NF Trust is a private fund solely for my healthcare needs. In order for a Fund to be tax deductible, a foundation must be established under law with a board of trustees governing the fund. It must also benefit a population rather than a sole individual. I do not have the resources for such huge undertakings.
