Diagnosis: Neurofibromatosis Type 2 – a genetic disorder that makes tumors grow in my brain, spine, and along peripheral nerves.
What is the matter? Trapped ventricle. Fluids have become trapped in the left temporal horn and lateral ventricle of the brain. The fluid is not flowing as it should and needs to be treated as soon as possible. Since my Auditory Brainstem Implant is located near the trapped fluids, implanting a catheter or shunt here is tricky. My Neusorgeon is very familiar with my case history, this condition and this illness, so he can handle the treatment well.
Risks & Symptoms: Severe headache may start to occur anytime and treatment is needed as soon as possible. There is already vision disturbance. If left untreated, the pressure can kill.
Expected surgery date: July 2010
Place: St. Vincent Medical Center with surgeons from House Clinic – reknown for treating Neurofibromatosis.
Why these surgeons?: The surgeons at House Clinic has seen me since 2004. They know my case like no one else would. Dr. Lekovic is an expert in the treatment of Hydrocephalus and Auditory Brainstem Implantation.

Why I need to raise funds
NF tumors and the problems they cause require expert medical care. Unfortunately, I am uninsured and not insurable while Malaysia lacks the experience required for the long term care of patients with this genetic disorder. Besides, it is important to maintain my quality of life. My 69-year-old father is unable to take care of himself after a brain haemorrhage more than twenty years ago while my 61-year-old mother’s work prospects are limited. So I need to organize fundraising campaigns to pay for good healthcare locally and abroad. Poor treatments can leave me unable to take care of myself and instead become a burden to others. I must obtain the best treatment possible. with doctors familiar with my case history.
Is this Trust Fund tax deductible?
No, Yvonne Foong NF Trust is a personal fund solely for my healthcare needs. In order for a Fund to be tax deductible, a foundation must be established under law with a board of trustees governing the fund. It must also benefit a population rather than a sole individual. I do not have the resources for such massive undertakings.
